Introduction:

In September 2015 2016 SIG-Marcomms formulated the need for a larger workshop or exercise about crisis management and crisis communication. Crisis management is becoming an increasingly urgent topic for NREN's and within different SIG's and TF's there is have signaled a need for more discussion, awareness and training on this subject.

To fulfill this need and to facilitate the broader discussion about crisis management between all relevant communities, GEANT will organize a two day crisis management event in November 2017.

Afternoon: roundtables to discuss how to cope with a crisis on a European scale

 

Theme exercise (ideas):

  • European Crisis
  • Network connectivity issue (attack or natural disaster)

In this exercise all players will congregate at one location to play out crisis scenario together. Every player will get assigned a role within different teams. These different teams will work together to deal with questions and orders in a realistic and evolving scenario. There will be one responscel that will provide injects throughout the day to keep all teams engaged. This responscel can simulate different outside factors like journalists, angry clients and government entities.

  • People from SIG-ISM, SIG-NOC, SIG-Marcomms, SIG-MSP, TF-CSIRT

Working group:

  • One person of each SIG, Nicole Harris, Sigita Junikaité, Steffi, Charlie, someone from IT, someone from the venue, anyone else who wants to join (max 10 people in total)Steffie Bosman, Charlie van Genuchten
  • Tasked with:
    • creating a scenario outline
    ,

    master event list, organizing the event, attracting
    • short-list of speakers/trainers for the second day

Venue and dates:

  • We need a venue that has an auditorium or large room for 100 people and at least 5 meeting rooms in which we can split up the participants.
  • We want to hold the event at the end of November, the exact dates will be decided in consultation with the hosting NREN.
