Subchapter

Description

Notes

The work itema brief description of the topic at hand, map it to "our world". You may get inspiration from the corresponging ToIP description.
  • high-level overview (table, free-text?)
  • input from Switch will be shared
  • use cases with involvement of our primary stakeholder (universities, NRENs, research institutes, libraries...)
Transformative aspects

What will potentially change with respect to our current way of delivering value in general?

And what will change with a particular view to our ecosystem? Include a critical review of our existing ecosystem services and the nature of potential impact on them.

  • cross-sectorial approach is relatively new to us
  • we have to better explain what, how and why we are doing the things the way we are doing them
  • we will be exposed to new "competitors" (e.g. non-formal training organisations)
Opportunities

Describe use cases in our ecosystem that could potentially benefit from an emerging DI ecosystem

Describe assumptions / requirements towards other players / outcomes etc. to make it deliver value to our ecosystem

Describe actions we need to fulfil as a community (ecosystem) to get such value delivered to our ecosystem

Might this make it easier for NRENs to participate in the ecosystem with less effort?

  • we can concentrate on the things we are authoritative for and profit from work done elsewhere
  • contribute with our 2 decades of experience with federations to influence the new wallet-ecosystem:
    • we could contribute to the "trust fabric", we are "better" here to overcome the silos (e.g. Google or Microsoft)
Risks

Describe potential situations or actions of other important stakeholders leading to a failure to deliver value to our ecosystem

This could be linked to external developments but also to our inability to fulfil above actions or to get consensus in our own ecosystem

  • compatibility issues (technical, policy)
  • cannot solve compatibility and end up with silos
  • we cannot cope with the "stability" of paper (issuance, but also verification)
  • we cannot provide good enough usability → silos for fixing this
Engagements

Describe (crowdsourced within our group) prior or ongoing activities in our ecosystem relevant to the topic at hand by NRENs and GÉANT

  • EBSI Wave 3
  • DC4EU
  • IDunion (DE)
  • DIDAS (CH)
Recommendations

what to do for GEANT, NRENS and respective communities (incl. research, libraries, etc)

  • engagements in the respective standardisation bodies
    • prevent silos
    • user-friendlyness
  • collaborate in important projects (like OWF)
