The Shibboleth OIDC Extension was developed as extension to the Shibboleth IdP to allow for the use of the OpenID Connect (OIDC) protocol next to the SAML2 protocol.

This activity supports the further support and development of this extension and in parrallel will begin a dialog with GEANT service activities and the Shibboleth Consortium to make the current product move towards a fully sustained product.

Goals
  • Support  further development of this extension, with the focus on bringing it into the core of Shibboleth IdP
  • Respond to bugs and feature requests from community
  • Make the extension go trough formal OIDC foundation certification
  • Work with Shibboleth consortium development team to get extension into production version of Shibboleth IdP
  • Begin a dialog with GEANT service activities and the Shibboleth Consortium to make the current product move towards a fully sustained product in some way

Shibboleth IdP is the most used IdP product in the R&E community. By adding this extension, institutions will add the capability to support the OIDC protocol next to the SAML protocol. This will enhance the ability of the institutions to connect to (new) services
