Learning Needs Assessment (LNA): Process in 5 steps

Step 1: Invitation to

...

a meeting

GLAD sends out an invitation to meet with Work package Leaders (WPL) and Task Leaders (TL) to discuss the learning requirements.

Step 2:

...

Team and task leaders take part in a discussion organised by GLAD to discuss training needs that support the work activities and project deliverables.

During a one-hour chat we will ask you questions about your team, team strategy, project goals and deliverables and your view on the current performance of your team and future performance requirements. To get an idea of the type of questions click here.

Step 3: Set up a plan for action

After this explorative exercise we will digest your information and provide you with a summary of the discussion. The summary will include a list of your training requests and if possible, some training suggestions These could encompass courses (in-house, public or online), coaching needs or otherwise. All will be captured in a plan for action.

Step 4:  Give learners a voice

To give learners a voice in this LNA process – after all, the learning is on their part, all GN4.3 project team members will be invited to cast a vote to the training requests nominated by the team leaders and select their top 5.  This will help us target and prioritise training requests even better.

Step 5:  Implementation of the training plan

The results of the full assessment will be incorporated in a centralised 2019 Training Plan. Training events will be published on the learning.org and will be open to all GN4.3 project members following the GN4.3 Approval process.

  LNA meeting

GLAD organises meetings with every Work Package. During the meeting, GLAD will listen and ask questions. The aim is to collect views on the current and future team performance, as well as to understand the context of each Work Package and Task, as well as objectives and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) which show progress towards those objectives.

Step 3: Summary email

GLAD provides a summary email. It will include the following: (a) identified needs, (b) level of prioritisation, (c) possible alternatives and (d) estimated execution timeline.

Step 4: Tentative Learning Plan

Based on the input from LNA meetings, GLAD puts together a Learning Plan. All training requests are arranged in two groups: (1) Primary, the training projects that are essential and instrumental to the GN4.3 performance. Primary training projects are those that are mentioned in the Technical Annex or those directly related to project deliverables. In terms of implementation primary training projects are given . (2) Associate, are those training projects that are deemed necessary but aren’t a Project Deliverable. Prioritising associate projects will depend on availability and eligibility of resources.

Step 4a: Checking eligibility

GLAD checks financial eligibility of prospective training projects.

Step 5:  Publishing Final Learning Plan

GLAD publishes the Final Annual Learning Plan. It becomes an execution plan for GLAD team to deliver to the project.
