Notes

Welcome, Introductions & Agenda Agreement

The Chair welcomed everyone to the 3rd meeting of 2018....

Membership Updates and Joining

For details on new members and candidates see https://technical.edugain.org/status and work on progressing new members is underway.

The membership joining process wasn't regarded as a bottleneck with many of the blocking operations being due to candidate federations not responding/revising their documnetation. The involvement of the -discuss mailing list was seen as a positive. While the selected number of federation members are asked to participate in sequence there always seemed to be a small subset of the membership that respond. A point was raised that some federations don't participate and believe that the other members will provide input - but this isn't a sustainable situation if everyone takes this view. .

  •  ACTION-TBA: TBA

TOPIC...

The technical validation and the new SAML profile will provide a higher bar and many believe this is more important.

Revision of the eduGAIN Policy Framework

The revised SAML profile is now live and effective for new participants to eduGAIN. A timeline for its implementation for existing candidates was discussed but no timeline was confirmed as the impact on membership hasn't been determined. This will be reviewed in coming meetings. A new validator is available for federations to self assess.

eduGAIN and GDPR

The GDPR session earlier in the day at the Internet2 Global Summit was well attended and should be used as a reference for those looking at the impact of GDPR. There weren't any additional issues raised at this meeting...

Future meetings

The next meeting will take place on 19th June 2018 at 12:00 - 13:30 UTC.
