  2. geteduroam Android 11+ in open beta

This version is an upgrade for 1.0.20 on devices running API 30+, which means: Android 11+ and the change is that it will install the SSID networks in a different more natural way to the end-user. The previous version, 1.0.20, was used by a few people, but we got mixed feedback.
As a reminder, this beta can be joined from Android using:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.eduroam.geteduroam
or the web via:
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/app.eduroam.geteduroam

builds available from Paul if you don’t like Play Store

questions about this please in the #geteduroam channel on Slack

  1. Open Q: do IdPs out there care much about OpenRoaming on Android <11?
  • only subset of builds enables OpenRoaming
  • majority of users of geteduroam seem to be on 11
  • formally, Android 6+ can support Passpoint, depending on build and chipset firmware

(Android <=7 not in the question here - it is not supported by geteduroam at all; would need a whole new app)

8-10 ? StefanP suggests making APKs for people wanting bug fixes and “proper” support for OpenRoaming.

Can we at least change the description of the app in Play Store to point users to alternatives etc.?

  1. OpenRoaming info for end users… final thoughts?

NRO and IdP/SP advice already online -> eduroam.org / Advisories

To add: will only connect to the “no personal data requested” hotspot category (sub-set of the free-of-charge)

Will push text out in 1 week from now.

  1. CAT 2.1: time to release
  • add translations
  1. OpenRoaming Terms of Use
  • on OR website
  • lots and lots of text - hard on a smart phone https://wballiance.com/openroaming/toc-2020/
  • just displaying link to ToU might be sufficient (can assume device to be online during signup, as it collects real-time info from online DB)
  • Let’s do it that way.
