In today's rapidly evolving world, the landscape for National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) is more dynamic and complex than ever. From ground-breaking EU initiatives to significant geopolitical shifts, NRENs face a constant stream of challenges and opportunities that demand a unified, informed response.
Why SIG-Public Affairs and Policy? Because Your Voice Matters.
The idea for SIG-Public Affairs and Policy (PA) emerged from a vital discussion at a GEANT General Assembly, where delegates engaged in passionate, yet ultimately unconcluded, breakout sessions on the future GEANT Strategy. Topics like Digital Sovereignty and the evolving role of NRENs – from pure network providers to comprehensive service facilitators for Research and Education – sparked intense debate. It became clear: a critical need exists for a dedicated platform where these vital discussions can continue, where insights can be shared, and where collective action can be forged.
SIG-Public Affairs and Policy (PA) is designed to be your umbrella forum for strategic discussions on the most pressing issues impacting NRENs. Imagine a place where you can:
Who Should Join?
If you are an NREN professional, policy expert, public affairs specialist, or simply someone passionate about the strategic direction and resilience of NRENs in a changing world, SIG-Policy is for you. This is a platform for knowledge exchange, collaborative problem-solving, and shaping the future.
Great news: The Special Interest Group on Public Affairs and Policy (SIG-PA) is officially moving forward! We are now a formally approved GÉANT SIG, building on the success of our TNC25 introduction. We have extended invitations to our initial cohort of Steering Committee (SC) members and are finalizing the committee's formation. The SC's first strategic meeting will take place in January, serving as the final session of our upcoming Public Affairs Workshop.
