GRNet
Facebook has been a useful tool for the two contests that were implemented in the past. Having thousands of users, it proved an effective tool for providing them with up to date information, and contributed significantly not only in raising awareness on the contests, but also for coordinating the projects in a more efficient way.

About Facebook
In this context, the last year the Department of Communications of REUNA decided to create a profile in Facebook of the Chilean National Research and Education Network. It has been a great experience and very fruitful for us because at the present moment we have 168 friends among themselves various communities of interest, like universities, research groups and schools.
Even though we have not spent much time on social networks we have had good results. We often received consultations about the network thanks to Facebook and even more we could meet specific and interesting audiences.
As we had little time to work on updating Facebook, we linked it to RSS to the most interesting sections of REUNA's web site. But, when we have important information we prefer to publish it manually.
This year we will work longer on Facebook because we realized it is a valuable tool to add public with same interests. Furthermore it is very useful in order to receive relevant information.
During 2012 we are going to change from profile to page, like other similar institutions, because when we created our profile on Facebook, this department didn’t know the difference.
About Twitter
Also the last year we started working with Twitter, and updated it by RSS. Step by step we have discovered their potential and learned to use it. We conclude that was very useful tool to disseminate the streaming of our partners.
We manually tweeted streaming when it was topic of public interest. Today REUNA has 325 followers, 852 tweets and we follow 61 (organizations/ individuals).
Wikipedia
In February 2011 we also created a page on Wikipedia in Spanish what was an adventure. There we met the editors who had to approve our content and when they understood the work of REUNA we could publish the page.
We know there are several things that we could improve in this page and we will work in them this year.
In our opinion, Wikipedia was relevant in our work last year because every day many people look for information online and this wiki can be useful as another dissemination tool.
SIGMANET
- We have learned that social media is great for event and new service dissemination.
