AGENDA

(times in CET)

TimeSession
9:30-9:40Welcome
9:40-10:00GÉANT Network refresh -  Paul Shelswell, GÉANT
10:00-10:20

Experiences of integrating of new Inventory Management System - Tony Barber, Steve Hagger and Emma Apted, GÉANT.

An insight into the challenges of replacing a home built bespoke inventory and service management system with an off the shelf product which required much customisation to meet the needs of the very varied GEANT service catalogue and far spread network.  We will look at the project management challenges, the data transfer challenges and the operations difficulties that were encountered and mostly overcome.

10:20-10:35Mentimeter - operational challenges in the new normal - Magda Haver, GÉANT
10:35-10:45Coffe break
10:45- 11:00Post Covid operational processes - What is the new normal?  Round table updates from participants. Moderated by Ivana Golub, PSNC
11:00-11:15

Timemap: latency and jitter monitoring tool - Fabio Farina, GARR

Real-time ultra-high bandwidth applications like LoLa need networks capable of controlling latency and jitter in addition to the capacity. Uncontrolled latency or unstable jitter can disrupt even the most carefully tuned connection setup, and the issue is that latency and jitter are bound to other network parameters through complex patterns. We will give an overview of how the Timemap can support Operations in debugging latency and jitter. We will recap the service status after one year of data taking on the GÉANT backbone, and will present Timemap upcoming evolutions.

11:15-11:45

Automation e-Academy - Maria Isabel Gandia, CSUC

Orchestration, automation and virtualization are increasingly important to the challenges faced by network operators, whose users demand self-service on a digital platform. To help network engineers in the process of learning automation techniques, the GÉANT project has created the Network Automation e-Academy, free to access and with capsules on different topics, from formats, protocols and languages to case examples of the academic world, which are published regularly on the e-Academy (https://e-academy.geant.org/)”

11:45-12:00Wrap up, future in-person? meeting and Christmas cake and drink
