Updates BusDevRequests & questions from PR/IR/MarComms/RENotes
eduroam

6 new NROs approved by the GeGC:

  • Sierra Leone (SLREN)
  • Rwanda (RwedNET)
  • Gambia (GAMREN)
  • Zimbabwe (ZIMREN)
  • Botswana (BotsREN)
  • Mali (MaliREN)
Guatemala is also looking into creating an NRO. They would be interested in the RedCLARA conversations.

Branko had call a with Marco Teixeira and his question is basically if they (RedCLARA) can act as a temporary NRO for some countries until they are technically and organisationally ready to take over.
So that setup would be entirely temporary and they are ready to help setup and pass over NRO duties in the countries when the would be ready to take over.
This will be further discussed with the SO, secretariat and GeGC, specifically the regional representatives.

eduGAIN

The eduGAIN strategy 2025-2030 was launched on 13 June.

TANZANIA TERNET federation officially joined eduGAIN in production now.
We're organizing the next eduGAIN training for FedOps for the second half of October, location to be confirmed/identified, likely a SEE country, also to ease in person participation from ASREN, who has officially requested a training.
We have a new training team member,  Zenon Mousmulas from GRNET.
Work continues to support the current candidate, like Botswana, Mozambique.

One of the items on the eduGAIN roadmap, following the strategy, is creating a stakeholder document. The how's and when's are tbd.
InAcademia

Taking a bilateral approach, NREN by NREN, as it's impossible to provide one-size-fits-all information to all.

Branko is leading this, and has committed to discussions with representatives of edugate, eduid.cz and eduid.hu.

Irina asked whether InAcademia representative should attend the Partner Relations meetings, but as we're trying to target specific areas, it makes sense to determine first where we are looking to increase our presence, and then work with the related Partner Relations team member. For example we're working with Mira already on our strategy to approach these focus areas. The main issue is that NRENs tend not to have commercial outreach teams, and so it's difficult to promote the service in national settings.

We have a weekly meeting with Karl to cover marketing areas.

Luis asked about whether there is opportunity for more regional activity, for example, RNP are doing something similar. This is very politically complex, though, and needs further understanding.

IncubatorAt we had a successful half-time demo at the beginning of June with 60+ participants.
TI Incubator mentorship program will start again soon in collaboration with GLAD.
Started collecting call for new topics. Successful contact with RoR (global, collaboratively built of research organization database) and PKP (public knowledge project - independent academic journal folks)

How best is to disseminate the TIM (internship) call for NRENs + How best to disseminate call for new topics.
GLAD is helping with TIM outreach. Irina to discuss with PR and then follow up with GLAD for supporting materials.

AOB

Request from  by Janos at Pro-M to find out more about how NRENs can make use of CoreAAI services. Pro-M (the Hungarian NREN) has been asked to provide a group management services for their research community, so Janos thinks that MyAccessID would be potentially a good fit.
We have checked the documentation on the PLM dashboard, but all of the links related to CoreAAI seem to be either not working, or quite out of date. Could you please share your current information sheet, pricings, and service request procedure?
