About TF-Storage

TF-Storage is established under the auspices of the TERENA Technical Programme to provide a forum for exchanging and promoting ideas, experience and knowledge, as well as fostering collaborations among National Research and Education Networks and academic and research institutions on the topic of data storage, data management and cloud storage.

The task force is chaired by Maciej Brzezniak (PSNC) and Peter Stefan (NIIF) The TERENA secretary is Peter Szegedi.

TF-Storage activity areas

  1. Forum for gathering expertise, exchanging and promoting ideas, experience and knowledge related to next generation augmented data storage technology, delivery models and services:
    1. Technology watch for commercial and open source storage technologies: including data centre, clustered and distributed storage systems and solutions;
      Led by Maciej Brzeźniak (PSNC)
    2. Overview of (national) storage activities and deployments: gathering and publishing (on the wiki and possibly in blogs) the information on projects, activities and deployments of storage systems and services.
      Led by Brian Boyle (HEAnet)

  2. Technical support for the NRENs’ initiatives related to storage infrastructure and services (IaaS)

    1. Evaluation, testing and (possibly) development of scalable and flexible data storage and management systems following the Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) delivery model.
      Led by Peter Stefan (NIIF)

    2. Collecting and publishing cook-books and best-practices documents on storage system evaluation and tendering procedures.Liaison with commercials.
      Led by Andy Vallely (Cisco)


  3. Security and trust in storage systems: legal and technical implications of directives, laws and security best-practices:
    1. Liaising with TF-EMC2 on access federations for storage services.
      Led by Mario Vandaele (BELNET)
    2. Addressing the in-depth security models in cloud storage   systems. Liaise with TF-CSIRT;
      Led by Maciej Brzeźniak (PSNC)
    3. Considering the legal implications of EU directives and national   laws as well as recommendations provided by security focused   organisations (ENISA, NIST) related to privacy and trust, data   handling, transfer, operations in the context of storage services.
