Introduction:

In September 2016 SIG-Marcomms formulated the need for a larger workshop or exercise about crisis management and crisis communication. Crisis management is becoming an increasingly urgent topic for NREN's and different SIG's and TF's have signaled a need for more discussion, awareness and training on this subject.

To fulfill this need and to facilitate the broader discussion about crisis management between all relevant communities, GEANT will organize a two day crisis management event in November 2017.

To get a clearer idea of what kind of crises NREN's are dealing with, you can read the blog of the SIG-Marcomms meeting here: https://blog.geant.org/2016/09/30/keep-calm-and-carry-on-communicating/.

Venue and dates:

The University of Malaga has kindly accepted to host this event on November 20 and 21. Details and directions will follow shortly.

Objectives of the event

  • Ensuring awareness of crisis management as a priority throughout the community;
  • Ensuring all NRENs have the tools and guidelines to form or enhance their crisis management plans and procedures;
  • Creating a common understanding and terminology to deal with crises on a European (long term: global) scale;
  • Kickstart an overarching Crisis Management community to share best practices.

  • Everyone goes away with at least one point of action on crisis management

Deliverables from the event:

  • Lightweight template for crisis management plans on an NREN level;
  • Rudimentary European crisis management procedure;
  • Agreed upon language to describe incidents/ shared terminology;
  • Key contact lists for major incidents;
  • Inventory: who is working on what.

Target group:

  • We invite all NRENs to send to CLAW representatives from their NOC, marketing-communications, CSIRT and/or information security management teams.
