Description and Value Proposition

Nowadays the ever-increasing complexity of applications and data means that the performance of networks are becoming ever more critical and more difficult to troubleshoot. EduPERT helps end users get the best from their connections and their systems. EduPERT is a community open to all interested in performance issues. It combines all the independent PERT teams and provides a forum to share knowledge, skills, tools and best practice to provide multi-disciplinary support to solve end-to-end performance issues. Its reach extends towards the end user and the end point and includes new technologies such as: high-speed, diverse traffic profiles, big data, and new end point environments like cloud or data centre. EduPERT is a simple way of filling a potential gap in the market for serving a performance community in a less rigidly defined but more actively coordinated way.

The project extensively uses the following resources:

  • PERT KB – knowledge base ( highly used and not only by PERTies) that everybody can contribute to and get knowledge from.
  • Edupert.geant.net – where all announcement, reports, technical documents are published and accessible by the community
  • Pert-discuss mailing list – used by the community to discuss idea, to ask questions or suggestions. It’s the communication mean of the community.
  • Monthly phonecalls – where the community engages in topics of interest.
  • Annual F2F meeting – the occasion for the community to meet in person and exchange experience and opinions.

Besides these resources, Performance U! is offered.

Performance U! is an abbreviation of Performance University. The idea is to offer a school that aims at training network performance experts. Performance U! provides a strong educational base through winter and summer schools where the community can learn about TCP, new tools and new technologies. The school consists of a hands-on session that covers both the draft procedures and the technical aspects of running a PERT and provides technical guidance, tips and information about how to investigate and resolve issues. It also covers the various tools, techniques and methodologies that can be employed to investigate issues. Furthermore, it has a session dedicated to different presentations from experts in the field.

The eduPERT service is delivered on a best effort basis. The phonecalls happen every month but the SLA offered for the coordination of a possible multidomain troubleshooting process or the update of the content of the portal is best effort.
