Background IP

Background IP is generally identified as part of the Consortium Agreement writing phase before the project starts. However, not all the information may be captured during that activity. So after the project starts, the missing information should be captured with the support of representatives for each partner.

Sideground IP

Sideground IP is captured during the project execution phase with the collaboration of the partners. The need to capture this kind of IP will be a direct consequence of the project results process, i.e. some project results may need the information of this IP to manage the foreground IP.

Third-party IP

Third-party IP is captured during the project execution phase with the collaboration of the partners. The need to capture this kind of IP will be a direct consequence of the project results process, i.e. some project results may need the information of this IP to manage the foreground IP.

Foreground IP

Foreground IP is captured during the execution of the project and is important to ensure that sufficient rights exist to ensure the successful exploitation of the project results to which this IP is connected. There might be multiple foreground IPs that are connected to each project result, or the generated foreground IP may be connected to multiple project results. To identify foreground IP, look at the “innovation” or “what is the new aspect” of a given project result. In addition to that, also look at what is needed (which was created during the project) by a partner so that they can exploit that project result.
