Online Students Acessment

After an initial phase of general adaptation of teachers to technologies to support distance learning, it is now urgent and necessary
to discuss mechanisms and formal aspects related to students' online assessment. This has been identified as one of the biggest constraints of distance learning and apparently the first steps are beginning to be taken
in order to identify and provide mechanisms for supervising these moments for greater transparency of the process in order to ensure
that it is the student who really elaborates and responds to a given test.

Video on education: Lecture Recording and Broadcast (LiveStream and Videoconferences)
Distance learning is based on synchronous and asynchronous activities.
In recent times the video has taken on an even more relevant role and the twu role in a pedagogical perspective is increasingly important.
In addition to the synchronous activities provided by video conferencing systems, the use of video can be extremely important in
asynchronous activities, leaving the recorded lesson or an exhibition on a certain topic. The degree of reuse of videos is high and there are active learning methodologies (such as the flliped classroom) that are based on this type of resource.

Vscene to the communityLightning talkThere have been many discussions within the group on a number of other video based collaboration tools, however Vscene (www.vscene.net) has not been mentioned yet and it was designed for Education, with the help of the Education community and security is at the heart of what we do. We only allow education, research and public sector use of the platform and have a very strong user base in the UK and Ireland and are just about to launch global expansion – multi language is also on the roadmap.Gavin McKenziegavin@ajenta.net
E-learning infrastructure and user support for HE in CroatiaLightning talkE-learning Centre at SRCE provides e-learning systems and user support/education in implementation of e-learning technologies to entire HE in Croatia. Even if e-learning was widely used, it was used commonly in blended mode. With COVID-19 pandemic entire learning process went fully online. This meant huge increase in number of users needing to use our services but also user support. In this lightning talk we will present system usage in this period, our actions to keep services running and available to users and the scope of user support. At the end we will summarize our short term plans for our services.Zvonko Martinovic (SRCE)zvonko.martinovic@srce.hr

Lessons from the Covid videoconference crisis in Italy

Lightning talk

Italy has faced more than 7M students having to attend online lessons in a few days. The deflation of user base has highlighted the scalability limits in traditional VC platforms and in the related end-user support practices. The need for a novel strategy has brought to a wider, deeper understanding of the available open source solutions for education VCs. In this lightning talk GARR will share the main lessons learned in managing the changes needed to face the Covid crisis, and how the acquired know-how can give hints on the path towards future education services.

NRENs role in global impact on education - multistakeholder model (CARNET)Lightning talk

NRENs as supporters of education and educational community in many various aspects (such as providing Internet connectivity, digital tools, education etc.) can also have important advisory roles in international institutions, furthering the case of NRENs impact on educational development on a global level.

The case presented is Croatian (CARNET) participation in Multistakeholder Advisory Group, body established to advise UN Secretary General on policy, development, economic, sociocultural and educational issues all known under the umbrella of Internet Governance issues. Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is a platform for transparent, open, inclusive discussions of Internet Governance related issues appreciating multistakeholder model and bottom-up approach. Back to the regional and national level, (Croatian) IGF discussions lively cover different stakeholders' perspectives in themes closely related to the area of education such as Digital Literacy, Protection of Children on Internet and many others.

Digital Literacy for Teachers (Security, Tools, OER) GARR training activities during COVID emergencyLightning talkDuring COVID emergency the main problem for teachers has been how to understand all the extraordinary powers that Internet (and all the online tools) can offer them, and how to use them quickly. We'll show what we have carried to the Italian teacher community to improve their knowledge. This emergency is a big opportunity for digital growth in schools and universities , but it's showing all the limits and holes in teachers digital literacy. Gabriella Paolini (GARR)gabriella.paolini@garr.it
Technology and Data in the service of education - Learning Analytics, CARNET deltaLightning talk

Learning Analytics and Educational Data Mining Information System CARNET delta encompasses measuring, collecting, analyzing, correlating and reporting of data from various data sources and their context aiming for gaining better comprehension of learning processes, and the environment in which learning takes place. CARNET delta learning analytics system is aimed to be developed in the following directions:

- to boost educational processes, helping students selecting their learning strategies, and monitor their accomplishment, enabling teachers to have insight into large set of data related to particular student or class, decreasing dropout rate

- to enhance reporting in educational system and enable evidence based strategies, policies and decissions making

- as a platform for collaboration with other NRENs exchanging experience in sence what really boost educational process, exploring capabilities of learning analytics concepts and strategies.

Virtual and hybrid conferences – next levelTopic for conversations

Streaming live events and conferences has been always very challenging and sometimes more and sometimes less stressful. Mastering and combining new and old technologies, different channels of streaming (youtube, facebook, own web portal or IPTV platform), communication (twitter, FB, chats, web or video conference) can be done and is recommended today. Can we do better than we used to do? What resources are in the game? Do we need to spend a lot to make it work seamlessly and to look better than before? Can we mix different sources and how to do it with FOSS?

Technical Challenges for LMS in the age of working and studying from home

Lightning talk

E-learning solution at Croatian Academic and Research Network (CARNET) relies on Moodle installation. Our Moodle solution called Loomen is used by many primary and secondary schools, but also by numerous universities. Due to coronavirus and switching to fully online mod, we had higher demand on our system. To provide stability and ensure unobstructed workflow we had to proceed with radical organization modification such as establishment of two additional Moodle installations for primary and secondary schools, Moodle database and web adjustments and additional user support. What we have done and what are our plans for the future, we will present in this lightning talk.

Up2U National Infrastructure in Lithuania: COVID-19 Challenges and ImplicationsLightning TalkUp2U project helped to prepare for COVID-19 challenges in Lithuania:
- to provide schools with dedicated Moodle instances and other Up2U tools,
- to train teachers in using virtual learning environment,
- to organise support system for schools' Moodle administrators and teachers.
Scaling up to serve ~250 schools with more than 70K users was also a challenge for the infrastructure and required additional efforts to fine tune systems' architecture and configuration for extremely increased load. The need for reliable video lecturing in remote teaching situation was met by LITNET team witch installed and provided with scalable open source BigBlueButton solution. Main implication of COVID-19 is a clear necessity for national strategy to facilitate use of virtual learning environments in schools and provide further support for developed Up2U national infrastructure.
